If you use several Apps on your Mac with many windows open, you would be a perfect fit for WindowMizer. One of those Apps is WindowMizerizer from RGB World software. You also have the option of having the minimized window display the application icon of its parent application, and can configure it so when you mouse over a minimized-in-place window you see its name andor the application that owns it.I use many small Apps to enhance my daily Mac workflow. You can specify the size and opacity of minimized-in-place windows, and enable magnification (similar to the Docks) if you prefer, which I dont. When you apply it to a window, the window shrinks down and becomes, essentially, a floating icon. They call it Minimize-in-Place, and Ive been using it a lot more than the traditional window shade effect these past few weeks. Of course WindowShade X offers the classic effect its named for: Double-click the title bar of any window and it rolls up like a window shade, so only its title bar remains on screen.īut WindowShade X also has several unique and useful features never seen in the Apple versions of old. Why Apple saw fit to remove this fantastic OS 9 feature from OS X is still a mystery to me, but quite honestly, Unsanitys WindowShade X 3.0 is better than any of the Apple versions ever were. Since then, most (if not all) of the haxies have been updated, upgraded, bug-fix-ated, or otherwise improved, and a couple of new ones have been introduced. Personally I have used Windowshade close to a decade since Mac OS 10.1 on dozens of Mac systems with various flavors of Mac OS X from web production to gaming systems and havent had any issues related to APE or WindowShade. Sidenote: Some people have said the Application Enhancer, aka APE, WindowShade uses tends to cause issues with their system. WindowShade X has many other features like making the window transparent which can be dialed in to your exact liking among others. I love this feature as it seems to increase my productivity when I have my desktop infested with a copious amounts of windows to deal with dragging and dropping files from one window to the next. Which if my memory serves me correct was a feature introduced by Apple way back in Classic Mac OS 7 or 8 where you could collapse windows to their titlebar.Įssentially when you double-click on the title bar of a window, instead of the window moving into the dock, which you can leave that feature on if you like, it will collapse the window to the title bar in its place. WINDOWMIZER UPDATE
Unsanity today released WindowShade X 2.1.2, a maintenance update to its utility that brings the familiar window-collapsing effect from Classic Mac OS into Mac OS X, and allows you to control window shadow settings. When you double-click the title bar of a window, WindowMizer minimizes the window to the Dock and leaves a placeholder title bar on the screen.
There are also rumors of new iLife updates and product announcements too. You can drag the mini-windows anywhere on screen and theres even an option to automatically arrange your minimized windows along any edge of the monitor. Reduce screen clutter and maintain an organized desktop when working with a multitude of windows and limited screen space. Stop digging through your windows trying to find the one your looking for. Simply double-click on the title bar of a window and it will roll-up like a window-shade.
